5 Alternative Christmas Stockings

Jessica Robinson

A Christmas stocking is traditionally a sock that is left empty on Christmas eve so Santa can fill it with small toys, candy and other little gifts. I actually received my first ever stocking only about 3 years ago - and I absolutely LOVED it! Lip balms, hair bobbles, chocolate - its the excitement of waking up on Christmas day and unwrapping some thoughtful little gifts before you've even got out of bed. Stockings are also a fab idea for keeping children entertained when they bounce out of bed at the crack of dawn. This also gives mum & dad have a little extra time to diffuse those Snowball hangovers before family descend and turkey chaos ensues.

I am often one to think different to the norm, and with Christmas a perfect excuse to get super creative, here's a small selection of alternative 'stockings' I've come up with which you can stuff with thoughtful, humorous and edible gifts for the one magical day of the year......

1) 'Helloooo Did someone say Proseccooooo'

A simple black Tote Bag printed with a sparkly text makes a fantastic 'stocking' for an adult or uni student. The bag itself also doubles as a useable gift all year round - transporting bottles of fizz and your other 5-a-day has never looked so glam with this grocery bag for life. This was a design collaboration made in heaven between myself and Jodie from Paper Pipit. There is also an option to have a secret message printed on the inside too.

2) Initial Mini Tote Bag

This cute little bag can be printed with an initial or character of your choice in a range of colours and two types of font, with added extra sparkles if wanted. You could spell out a name for a bit of extra extravagance before you fill them with little treats. These would also look super cute after Christmas on a shelf in a children's room after the festivities have subsided (think on-trend monochrome for a Scandi-feel).

3) Large Zipper Wash bag

Perfect for those 'tweens! These are available in numerous different designs and can also be personalised with a name or word of your choice. Printed in pink with extra sparkles would be lovely and girly filled with face masks, nail varnishes and smelly's. Printed in monochrome, this would be ideal for the male variety filled with playing cards, joke gifts and chocolate (can't get enough of that at Christmas). This accessory bag comes in many colour-ways to choose from and is a super handy accessory bag and present in itself. Take a browse at all the options at:

4) Personalised Pencil Case

Yep. Not such a massive area to fill with stocking fillers, but makes awesome place settings for children filled with crayons and pencils. Serve with a 'colour me in' place mat to give yourself time to enjoy another glass of fizz in peace. You can order these to be printed in silver or gold sparkly for a bit of extra chrimbo-bling, or choose from other funky colours at...

Personalised Wellies!!!

Why not?! Make the best silly gift for welly-addicts, farmers and festival goers! I doodled these myself with a chalk pen, however I have also been trialling the latest offerings from Sharpie in this season's on trend copper/bronze colour too, just outline in pencil first the font type and words (rubs out easily) and squiggle over the top! These will also come in handy on 'that' walk you are forced to do over the holidays to rid of those extra calories and get some fresh air. Got to detox to re-tox!
