๐๐๐ What Mums actually want for Motherโs Day,ย and it doesnโt cost the earth either. A bit of thought can go a long way.ย ๐๐๐ (and apparently I'm a poet and I didn't know it)ย ๐
After feeling a bit brow beaten recently that I am constantly running around and doing things for other people without it being reciprocated, I asked on my Instagram stories โWhat do you really want for Mother's Day?โ And top of the lot wasโฆ.. *drumroll*โฆ..
1)ย ย Someone to clean the house!ย
I kid you not, its not even one of my Squiffy Print Personalised tattoo t-shirts, oh no, but someone to Hinch the house would make the majority of Mumโs Motherโs Day complete.ย
After my most recent cleaner ghosted me, and the one before that I had to get rid of after she nicked my hoover attachment (thats another story for another blog) I stumbled across the Organised Mum Method. Sometimes it's just easier to actually do the donkey work than continually ask for some help, know what I mean? But as this method proves, there is SO much more to life than housework! So I try to do a quick โtop levelโ clean each morning: make the beds, clear rooms of cups, chuck a load of washing in, and make sure the kitchen & back room are tidy of crumbs and clear of micro machines after breakfast. I work from the kitchen island so I canโt stand looking at all the crap. Iโll also do a Mrs Hinch and spray about with some watered down Zolflora so it smells less wet-dog and more Spring Flowers in an Open Meadow or whatever cray scent I have in at the time. Itโs usually on my head to sort & make tea (tonight Iโm doing a sausage casserole, a one-pot job = minimal washing up. Have linked the recipe there too, I also add courgette & spinach because sneaky veg) but this also means I had to go and buy the ingredients after I did the nursery drop off this morning. I returned home to the welcoming beep (sarcastic) of the washing machine telling me itโs finished itโs cycle, and it needs emptying & hanging up. The bonus ball being because itโs a bedding wash means theres a bed that also needs making too before bed time. Iโve not actually sat down at my desk until 10am, I just canโt seem to roll my 8-month-pregant body out of bed at 5.30am to make a head start on work and house-min like I used to. I only seem to have a certain amount of energy stored to use each day and most of it is used up doing the 'invisible' jobs.ย
I manage to squeeze in my โgirlyโ appointments (hair, nails, bikini etc) in-between being Household Manager, Mum and business owner. And that was the next most popular thing that I was told that Mumโs want:
2)ย A lie in & breakfast in bed
Its the thought that counts, but put a bit of effort in. Nice coffee, fresh orange, a bacon butty, croissant, a small flower in a vase on the tray, a mothers day card (handmade is good but Raffia do some good ones too). Get up, make it, deliver it to her in bed. Easy brownie points right there.ย
3)ย ย ย A treat like a massage, facial, nail appointment, hair blow-dry.
Which basically translates as โme timeโ.ย This is very important for the Mamaโs: feeling like themselves again after they have conceived, grown and birthed another human being. Time to themselves where someone isnโt constantly demanding their attention or they are having to constantly keep one eye on the small people.ย
How else can you give Mum the gift of time to herself?โฆโฆsimple justโฆ..
4)ย Leave her alone for a bit!ย ๐๐๐
Run her a bubbly bath and leave a book/magazine, a face/hair mask, a brew (but champagne or Prossecco are totally acceptable at any time of day) and a nice smelly candle burning too. Do not disturb until she emerges herself. Do not ask to use the toilet, brush your teeth or knock on the door at any point. And whilst sheโs in the bathโฆ.
5)ย Clean her car
Donโt comment on the state of it. Just clean it.ย
And that was actually it for feedback on my Instagram poll, apart from a bit of laundry, chocolate and wine, I think I have you covered. Well ALMOST......don't forget my Squiffy offerings for the day too from my Mother's day collection....
โฆ. a decent organic, personalised t-shirt, hoodie or sweater wouldnโt hurt either.....
